The Nature of Mobile Websites

Over the span of a few years, the lines between mobile phone communication and the Internet platform have been greatly diminished. Thanks to the arrival of smartphones and Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone models, anybody can access or check their e-mail inboxes anytime, anywhere. Despite the fact that Internet access comes as an added bonus for ordinary mobile phone owners, it cannot be denied that not all of them have the luxury to experience the World Wide Web in the same manner with those who navigate it through a computer. Since by default the Web has been formatted through a PC's interface, it is apparently expected that the mobile end-user accesses cyberspace with a level of difficulty. Even if a smartphone owner can get to see websites with a satisfactory image resolution, it is not impossible to see them try to zoom in on the page or squint in the process. That is why webpage alternatives such as mobile websites have been introduced.

In a nutshell, mobile websites are Web pages that end with the extension ".mobi" instead of ".com," ".net" or ".org". These sites basically cater to mobile phone browsers who have limited support for graphics and text. With that said, in most cases, mobile sites do not show pictures although they display text. This particular domain is geared towards mobile visitors who use Web-enabled mobile phone units instead of smartphones. In consideration of the bulk of mobile phone owners who have access to the Internet, most mobile communication networks have extended their official sites and come up with a secondary mobile domain.
